About Springfree Trampoline

  1. Why is a Springfree Trampoline safer than other trampoline models?

The Springfree Trampoline patented design features have eliminated 90% of product related trampoline injuries. The key features that make Springfree the world’s safest are:

Mat rods provide the safest bounce - Instead of springs which tend to rust and trap toes and feet, Springfree’s revolutionary design uses patented flexible rods. The rods provide a smooth, non-jarring bounce and lie beneath the jumping surface, out of harm’s way.

SoftEdge™ Mat removes hard edges - Our mat is 30 times more shock-absorbent than pads found on traditional trampolines.

The Springfree™ Trampoline SoftEdge™ is designed as a resilient surface that is safe to land on. It is not really designed as a bouncing surface. It is not as bouncy as the center, but it does have some bounce in it. We recommend that for best bouncing you should stay near the center of the mat, and consider the edge as a safety feature rather than a play area.

FlexiNet™ Safety Enclosure keeps the jumper on the trampoline - The patented FlexiNet enclosure has flexible rods to cushion jumpers and prevent falls. The jumper is directed back to the center and cannot make contact with the net rods. The zippered net also ensures jumpers cannot fall through the opening.

Frame situated beneath the jumping surface out of harm’s way – Additionally, with three layers of rust-preventative coating, our steel frames are built to endure even the most extreme weather.

For more information about our superior safety features and benefits check out this video.

  2. Is a Springfree Trampoline as bouncy as a traditional trampoline?

Springfree Trampoline provides a bounce similar to a traditional, spring-based trampoline in terms of how high you can jump. More spaced weave means it pumps less air and instead gives the energy back to the jumper. You can get a lot more height with more spaced weave. Springfree Trampoline mat fabric provides weave equivalent to traditional trampolines of the same size.

However, the feel of the bounce differs as Springfree Trampoline has a smooth, non-jarring bounce. The fiberglass rods deliver a deep, soft bounce and a performance superior to springs and one that is much gentler on knees and joints for the jumper.

  3. Why doesn't a Springfree Trampoline have pads around the edge?

The SoftEdge™ Mat itself has much more give than normal safety pads. In fact, the Springfree Trampoline edge is equivalent to the 70mm thick padding used on Olympic standard trampolines.

Traditional trampolines require safety pads to protect the jumper from falling on the steel frame, falling through or getting caught in the springs. However, independent safety tests show that these pads do not absorb enough impact to sufficiently protect jumpers from contact with the springs and frame. Springfree Trampoline’s superior design has completely removed the springs and steel frame at jumping level, so there is no need for safety pads.

  4. Other trampolines have enclosures - what is different about the Springfree Trampoline enclosure?

Springfree Trampoline’s FlexiNet™ enclosure is strong yet provides a unique flexibility that gently redirects wayward jumpers back to the centre of the trampoline.

Some spring-based trampolines may have enclosures but they aren't flexible and are held up with rigid steel poles which introduce another impact risk. Basic enclosures only stop jumpers from falling off. There is a risk that these jumpers could make impact with the springs and frame.

The FlexiNet™ on a Springfree Trampoline is UV-resistant to prevent deterioration from the sun and other harsh weather conditions.

  5. Can a jumper hit the ground even though there's a net?

Our FlexiNet™ enclosure system is designed to catch wayward jumpers and guide them safely back to the centre of the mat.

Even in cases where the FlexiNet is challenged by intentionally jumping into the top section of the enclosure, its proprietary design will maintain jumper safety. It is possible for a jumper to make the net flex to the ground but the FlexiNet will still absorb the jumper's impact and decrease the speed at which the jumper is lowered to the ground, minimizing the eventual impact.

  6. Can I have a Springfree Trampoline without the enclosure?

All Springfree Trampolines are sold with the FlexiNet™ enclosure. While it is possible to install a Springfree Trampoline without the FlexiNet, we do not recommend doing so.

The FlexiNet enclosure is one of the most important safety components of the Springfree Trampoline. It is designed to gently guide jumpers back to the centre of the trampoline and eliminates the risk of them falling to the ground.

For more information about the safety enclosure net of your Springfree Trampoline, check out this short video.

  7. Is my spring-based trampoline really that dangerous?

Yes! Recent figures show over 100,000+ kids globally end up in hospital emergency departments after injury on traditional trampolines. Springfree™ Trampoline is the only trampoline that has removed the design elements responsible for 90% of product related injuries from traditional trampolines.

  8. Do the Springfree Trampoline rods twist?

Springfree Trampolines do not have any twisting action from the composite rods, it is lateral movement.

In fact, the effect is undetectable in normal use. Springfree™ Trampoline's patented fibreglass rods are designed to work in unison, to bend inwards as a jumper bounces, with about 0.3 of a degree of twist. This equates to ~5mm movement in a lateral direction, i.e. sideways/rotationally at the edge of the mat surface. All other movement is “axial”, or inwards, towards the centre of the mat. Heavier jumpers (upwards of 100 kgs) will generate more axial movement, but little to no more lateral/rotational movement at the mat edge. Lighter jumpers will generate less of both movements. This movement is not only undetectable in use, but provides no affect to jumpers.

For more information, check out this video.

  9. Are the plastic covers necessary on the mat and net rods?

Yes. The high-performance rods on a Springfree Trampoline are housed in light plastic sheaths that protect the composite rods from UV deterioration. These sheaths may deteriorate over long periods of time as they take the full force of UV exposure, but they can be replaced.

  10. Can you get splinters in your hands from the fibreglass?

All the hi-tech fibreglass rods in the Springfree™ Trampoline are housed in a light plastic sheath. This not only protects you from skin irritation or splinters, but it also protects the plastic in the rods from UV deterioration.

  11. Why do you recommend only one jumper at a time?

While the Springfree Trampoline is the only trampoline to accomplish the elimination of 90% of product-related injuries from traditional trampolines, trampoline injuries can also occur from jumper collisions if more than one person jumps at a time. To ensure your family avoids injury altogether, we highly recommend enforcing the ‘one at a time rule’ when jumping on the Springfree Trampoline.

  12. How much weight can a Springfree Trampoline take?

To understand the strength of a Springfree Trampoline, there are two weights you need to be aware of - the Structural Load Capacity and the Maximum Single User Weight. The first relates to strength and the second relates to safety.

The Structural Load Capacity is the amount of static weight a trampoline can hold. A Springfree is strong enough to hold more than 700kgs static load.

The Maximum Single User Weight is based on how heavy you are and how high you jump. It is about ensuring jumpers don’t ‘bottom out’ (touch the ground while jumping). This doesn’t mean someone over these weights can break or tip the trampoline as the trampoline can hold over 700kg static weight.

Springfree Model Structural Load Capacity Maximum User Weight
    R30 Compact Round 600kgs 80kgs
    R54 Compact Round 600kgs 80kgs
    R79 Medium Round 700kgs 100kgs
    O47 Medium Oval 600kgs 80kgs
    O77 Medium Oval 700kgs 100kgs
    O92 Large Oval 700kgs 100kgs
    S113 Large Square 700kgs 100kgs
    R132 Jumbo Round 700kgs 100kgs

  13. Is the Springfree Trampoline weather-resistant? Can it stay up through all seasons?

All components of the Springfree Trampoline are weather-resistant, including UV stabilized mat and net rods, a galvanized and powder-coated steel frame and a UV stabilized polypropylene mat and safety enclosure.

Your Springfree Trampoline can be used all year and does not need to be covered or packed away even during the harshest summers or the coldest winters.

Springfree Trampoline mats can hold quite a lot of weight, but in very heavy snowfalls you will need to brush off the excess snow (with a soft-bristle brush, not a shovel) to avoid extra tension on the fiberglass mat rods located beneath the jumping surface.

  14. Where is Springfree Trampoline made?

Did you know the Springfree Trampoline was invented right here in NZ at the University of Canterbury? When Dr Keith Alexander was developing the Springfree Trampoline he was focused on safety. Dr Keith and his team of engineers searched the globe for the best quality materials and components. The main component, the patented fiberglass rods are made in Gisborne and most of the plastics are from Christchurch. Further, as the business grew and we started exploring globally we decided the only way to ensure safety was to build our own factory, with our own employees and our own quality control facilities. Our manufacturing facilities are located in China and we are proud to report having one of the most stable workforces; having invested in education and childcare for our associates. We are the only trampoline sold in NZ that is fully, vertically integrated – from design, to manufacturing to dedicated offices and retail stores located within the NZ. In order to ensure the integrity of the world’s safest trampoline, it was important to us to oversee all aspects of the manufacturing, delivery and servicing – to maintain the superior safety and quality.

Choosing a Springfree Trampoline

  1. How much space do I need around a Springfree Trampoline?

The required air space is important for safety. A minimum of 1 metre clearance from the edge of the mat to any vertical barriers like a fence or a wall is recommended around the perimeter of the trampoline. The easiest way to figure the spacing would be to add that distance to the length and/or width of the chosen’s trampoline mat size. For example, for the 3.4m square you would need a clearance of 5.4 x 5.4m if it was for you to have that surrounded by features all around. That is not the footprint. That is the air space clearance you would need. Footprint is still the listed 3.4m square.

Minimum space required to set up each model:

Springfree Model Trampoline Size Minimum Space Required
    R30 Mini Round 1.9m diameter 3.9 x 3.9m
    R54 Compact Round 2.5m diameter 4.5 x 4.5m
    R79 Medium Round 3m diameter 5 x 5m
    R132 Jumbo Round 3.9m diameter 5.9 x 5.9m
    O47 Compact Oval 1.9 x 2.7m 3.9 x 4.7m
    O77 Medium Oval 2.4 x 3.4m 4.4 x 5.4m
    O92 Large Oval 2.4 x 4m 4.4 x 6m
    S113 Large Square 3.4 x 3.4m 5.4 x 5.4m
